Dental imaging can show structures that are not visible during a routine examination. Depending on the concern, an X-ray may help the dentist assess teeth, roots, supporting bone or developing teeth.
Having imaging available at the clinic can make selected assessment pathways more convenient. It does not mean every patient needs an X-ray.
3D intraoral scanning
An intraoral scanner captures a digital record of the teeth and bite. It may be used for selected orthodontic records, patient communication or other treatment-planning needs.
The dentist will explain why a scan is being proposed and how it relates to the planned care.
From records to a treatment discussion
Images and scans are considered together with your concerns, medical and dental history, and examination findings. Treatment recommendations remain individual to the patient.
Will every patient need an X-ray?
No. The dentist decides whether imaging is appropriate based on the examination and clinical need.
Does a 3D scan guarantee orthodontic suitability?
No. A scan provides useful records, but suitability depends on the full orthodontic assessment.
